It is one of the oldest and most prominent tiger reserves in India, serving as a crucial conservation are a for the endangered Bengal tiger. Corbett Tiger Reserve Established in 1936 as Hailey National Park, it was laterre named in honor of Jim Corbett, a British-Indian hunter, conservationist, and author who played significant role in its establishment.
The reserve encompasses a wide range of ecosystems, including dense forests, grasslands, riverine belts, and hilly terrains.
It is traversed by several rivers, with the Ramganga River being the most prominent. These diverse habitats support a rich variety of wildlife, including not only tigers but also leopards, elephants, sloth bears, Himalayan black bears, deer species like sambar and chital, langurs, wild boars, and numerous bird species.
Apart from tigers and wildlife, the reserve also showcases the region’s cultural heritage. It is in habited by several indigenous communities whose livelihoods are closely connected to the forest and its resources.
